Misty's Munchies

Easter Butterfly Cake

2 bags of M&M pastels-The original shaped ones work best
1 18-oz. Cake mix-any flavor
1 container of frosting-any flavor
1 9-inch round cake pan
1 individual pkg of Starburst Fruit Chews-optional
Any candies or sprinkles you would like to decorate with

Make the cake mix according to the directions on the box.  Bake in a greased 9-inch cake pan.  Once baked, remove from pan and let cool.

Cut the cake in half.  Arrange the cake on a platter or plate turning the halves so the rounded sides touch.  To shape the wings, cut out a 1-inch triangle shape from each straight side, about 2 inches from the bottom.

Completely frost the cake with frosting.  Design your cake however you desire with the M&M’s, or candies, just press slightly to make sure they stay in place.

To make the butterfly’s antennae, unwrap a Starburst chew, put it in the microwave, just until softened and pliable, about 5-7 seconds.  Roll the candy into thin ropes and place them at the top of the butterfly.

Hope you enjoy making this and eating it.
Happy Easter Everyone.

Monkey Bread is this weeks recipe.  It’s fun to make and great to eat.  This is also fun to make with the kids.  Hope you like it.

Monkey Bread

3 (10 ounce) refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
½ cup sugar (use this coupon for .75 off Imperial Sugar)
1 tablespoon cinnamon
½ to 1 cup margarine   (use $1.00 off coupon from May All You)
1 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons water
½ cup walnuts, or pecans (optional)

1.  Preheat oven to 350*.  Place nuts on bottom of greased bundt pan.
2.  Mix cinnamon and sugar together in a bowl.
3.  Quarter biscuits; roll in cinnamon/sugar mixture.
4.  Place in pan-just evenly put the biscuit quarters around the inside of the pan.
5.  Melt margarine, brown sugar and water in pan, boil 2 minutes and pour over             biscuits
6.  Bake for 25 minutes.
7.  After it’s done, loosen bread with knive, tip upside down on platter, shake it or knock it       a little and presto your bread will come out perfectly.

Hint: Don’t forget oven temperatures vary, so I usually have to cook mine a little longer otherwise the dough isn’t cook all the way through.
If you want extra caramel sauce on yours, just double the sauce recipe and put a little extra on the dough, or make it as a dip once your bread is baked.  I love pulling these apart.

Yummy.

re is this week's Recipe from Misty!  Thanks Misty, I know I look forward to your recipes each week:

Hi everyone.  This weeks recipe is Savory Garlic Chicken Pasta.  This is so simple to make and is a winner with my family.

Savory Garlic Chicken Pasta

1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into bite sized pieces
2 cups hot cooked Penne pasta, (egg wide noodles are also great in this)
1 container or tub of Philadelphia cooking creme (savory garlic), you can use any     of their flavors for this (use coupon here)

1.  Cook the chicken in a large nonstick skillet on medium heat until chicken is       done.
2.  Add cooking creme to cooked chicken, mix well.
3.  Add already cooked pasta, stir.  That’s it!

The great thing with this recipe is you can cook almost any kind of vegetables in with the chicken.  I like to mix in broccoli, or corn.  Just remember the more vegetables you add, you may have to increase the cooking creme a little.  Enjoy.

Thanks Misty.

ere is Misty's Recipe for this week:
Hello Everyone.  School is almost out for this year and it’s BBQ time.  This recipe has to be my all time favorite for a condiment.  It’s suppose to be used for salads, but hey why stop there, I use it on hamburgers, hot dogs, for french fries, tater tots, even chicken and steaks, oh and fresh veggies.  Go crazy with it.  Here it is....yum!!!

Thousand Island Dressing

½ cups mayonnaise (use coupon for Hellmans' under zip code 21784 $1/1)
2 tablespoons ketchup (use $1.00 off of one Heinz from 5/22 SS)
1 tablespoon white vinegar (use $.50 coupon here )
2 teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons sweet pickle relish (use Vlasic Coupon Here)
1 teaspoon finely minced white onions (if you don’t like them minced, chop to your liking)
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 dash black pepper (optional)

1.  Combine all the ingredients in a small bowl.  Stir well.
2.  Place dressing in a covered container and refrigerate several hours, stirring every once in a while, so the sugar dissolves and the flavors blend.
3.  That’s it.  I know simple right?

Hint: I have used this dressing right after I’ve made it.  I just stirred it enough where I couldn’t see the sugar crystals anymore.  I have tried it both ways, and for me it was fine either way.  Also, I usually have to double or sometimes triple the recipe, because we use a lot of it.

Enjoy!!!!

Hey ya all.  Okay I had this recipe all ready for this week, then I went to make it today and  realized I was missing the main ingredient (I can’t find it at my local store.)  I still want to post it and the picture of what all goes into it.  The only thing not pictured was bananas and the actual can of pie filling.  I just wrote on a piece of paper and covered a can.  This is still an easy recipe and you will really like it.

Peach Pie Filling Fruit Salad

1 can peach pie filling ( It’s the big can, not sure of size)
1 (11 0z.) can of mandarin oranges (drained)
1 (15 oz.) can of peaches (cut into small pieces, and drained)
1 (small can) of pineapple tidbits (if you only have the sliced or chunky, just cut into smaller      pieces, also drain)
1-2 bananas (cut into slices or pieces, you choose)

Mix first 4 ingredients in a large bowl, cover and chill in refrigerator  for at least an hour.  Right before serving add the bananas.  Enjoy.  This is great for BBQ time

Here is this week's Misty's Munchies Recipe.  Sorry it is late, but life happens :)  Thanks Misty for all of your hard work and bringing us such great recipes.

Hi Everyone,
Since my Rhubarb decided to take over the back part of my fence I guess theres no better recipe to have.  This is another great summer one to.  Hope you like it.

Rhubarb Crisp

1 cup flour
3/4 cup oats
1 cup brown sugar
½ margarine (melted)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
4 cups rhubarb (chopped)
½ cup sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla

Heat oven to 350* Mix flour, oats, brown sugar, margarine and cinnamon in large bowl until crumbly.  Press ½ of mixture in bottom of a 8 x 13 cake pan.  (You can use a smaller cake pan if wanted.)  Place rhubarb on top of mixture and set aside for the moment.
Mix sugar, cornstarch and water in a small saucepan on medium heat just until the mixture is thick and clear.  Remove from stove, add in vanilla, stir.  Pour over rhubarb, and top with remaining crumbly mixture.
Bake in oven for about an hour.  Remove and let cool.
Serve with ice cream, or cool whip.

I personally like to eat it when its warm with some ice cream.  Ohhhh....so good.
Enjoy

Here is this week's "Misty's Munchies"

Hi Everyone,
Went to a friends last night, ended up staying and she had some “I don’t measure anything Lentil Soup”, which my daughter really liked.  So I took a picture of it and asked her for the recipe, which she tells me “Uh I don’t have one, I just threw some stuff together and it worked.”  I took a picture of the soup, but since I personally didn’t make it, I didn’t get a picture of the ingredients.

I Don’t Measure Anything Lentil Soup

1 Onion, roughly chopped (any size onion, depends on how much you want)
1-2 cups Carrots (guessing)
1 cup Celery (guessing)
Big can of diced tomatoes
Fresh garlic (put in as much as you want)
3/4 bag of Lentils (she said the smaller bag)
Chicken broth (follow recipe for Lentils but instead of water use the broth)
Small can of tomato paste
Salt/Pepper

Cook Lentils according to package, now these will be going into a crock pot, so if you want to cook them all the way that’s great, if only half the way that’s fine to.  Add everything else together in a crock pot, stir in Lentils and cook for about 3- 4 hours or so.  Now the cooking time varies.  You may want to cook it longer or shorter.  Enjoy

Here is Misty's Recipe for this week!

This week’s recipe is geared more toward your kids.  Although you would have fun with it to.  I have made different versions of this recipe and really enjoyed making and using this one.  My girls sure spent hours playing with it.  It also won’t cost you much, and with adult supervision your kids can help you make it.  Have fun.

Kool-Aid Playdough

1 cup flour
½ cup water
½ cup salt
3 Tablespoons oil
1 package Kool-aid (any flavor you want)

Mix all the ingredients together.  Cook over medium heat for a few minutes until dough forms the consistency you want.  Remove from heat, let cool.  Keep in an airtight container.  Refrigerate till needed or used.

Enjoy!!!

Here is this week's Misty's Munchies (sorry I am a little late in publishing it)

This is one of my husbands favorite meals.  I actually never made it myself till I married him.  The meat in this recipe is ground beef, but I used shredded chicken, you can use ground turkey or chicken, whatever you prefer.  Hope you like it.

Enchiladas

12 to 18 corn shells (precook these like you would for tacos, depending on your baking dish you                may only need 12 shells, for a bigger dish you will need 18 shells)
1-1 ½ pound of ground beef (fry in pan, break up, and drained)
1 can Cream of Mushroom soup
1 can Cream of Chicken soup
Milk
1 small onion (chopped)
1 small can green chilies (optional)
1 small can jalapenos (optional)
1 ½ -2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (for the inside of the Enchiladas)
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (for the top of the Enchiladas)

Preheat oven to 350* Precook your corn shells, set aside.  Fry up hamburger in a big skillet or 2 qt. pan, drain, return hamburger to pan.  Add both cream soups to the cooked hamburger, add enough milk to make it a creamy consistency, you may want it thinner or thicker, so less milk or more.  Add chopped onion, chilies and jalapenos.  Stir on low heat, just to keep it warm.

Put some of the hamburger sauce on the bottom of your baking dish, just enough to cover it.  Layer 6 of the corn tortillas on top of the sauce, then spread more sauce on top of the tortillas, put a layer of cheese on top of that, then another layer of tortillas, sauce, then cheese.  Depending on your dish you may only do this layering twice or if a larger dish then 3 times.  Your sauce should be on the top of the last layer.  Put in oven to bake for about 20 minutes, take out put cheese on top and bake for another 10 minutes until cheese is melted and golden.

This recipe is fun to do with the kids to.  Supervised of course.

Enjoy.

Here is this week's Misty's Munchies Recipe:

A friend gave me this recipe and I have used it ever since.  It’s great for pizza’s, garlic bread or sticks, even for a dessert pizza.  This dough only takes a few ingredients and a few minutes to make.  The best part is you only have to let it set 5 minutes.  Hope you like it.

Homemade Pizza Dough

2 1/4 teaspoon yeast (one package of yeast equals that)
1 cup warm water
2 ½ cups flour
1 teaspoon sugar
2 tablespoons oil
1 teaspoon salt

Mix yeast and water in mixing bowl till dissolved.  Add in rest of ingredients and mix until it comes together easily, in ball form.  Rub a little oil on top of the dough, turn over and repeat on that side.  Cover with towel and place in warm area to sit.  After 5 minutes it’s done.  I will sometimes forget it and go back 10-15 minutes later and it is just as good.  Flatten out dough on a pizza pan or any kind of pan you’d like.  Use as much dough as you’d like also.  Add pizza sauce and any topping of your choice.  Bake in a 350* oven for about 15-20 minutes.  You may want to cook it longer if your dough is thicker.  Take out of oven, cut and enjoy.  Will be hot.

Enjoy

Steak time!!!  Whether it’s on the BBQ or in the oven, this is a great way to make your steaks taste great.  It’s a very simple recipe that calls for most stuff you already have.  This would be great for chicken, turkey or pork.  Enjoy.

What a Great Steak Marinade

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 garlic clove (crushed)
1 tablespoon worchestershire sauce
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1 teaspoon mustard
1 tablespoon soy sauce

Mix all ingredients together in shallow bowl.  Marinade your steaks, then grill or bake.  I usually marinate my steak in a bowl or gallon size freezer baggie, let it sit for a while, then presto it’s done.

Enjoy

Hey everyone.  Sorry this weeks recipe is so late.  I have been helping a friend babysit, then by the time I get home I’m spent.  Whew!
This weeks recipe is great for those who are diabetic.  My sister-in-law gave me this simple cake recipe because it’s the only way she can have cake being a sever diabetic.  I have made this many times and it’s great.  Hope you like it.

Soda Pop Cake

1 box of cake mix (any flavor you want)
1 can of soda (any flavor you like-regular or diet work great in this)

Put both ingredients in large bowl.  Mix well.  Pour into a greased cake pan, bake according to cake mix package.  When done baking, cool and eat.  This is great with fat free cool whip or fruit.

Hint: If I’m making a darker colored cake, I use a darker soda (Coke or Dr. Pepper) If I’m making a lighter colored cake I use a lighter soda (Sierra Mist, 7-up).  You can do it however you like.

Enjoy

Sorry pictures won’t upload.
